IT'S NOT TOO EARLY TO START THINKING ABOUT THE DERBY

Before we know it, the 61st annual Derby will be here. Now is the time to plan your trip, make rental and ferry reservations, book charters, and schedule vacation time. The fun begins on Sunday, September 10, and wraps up on Saturday, October 14. This year, the Awards Ceremony will be held at Outerland, on Sunday, October 15.

Several new sponsors have joined the Derby, making the 2006 Award Structure one of the strongest ever. Highlighting it are the two Grand Prizes - a 19' Boston Whaler Montauk with a Mercury 115 horsepower 4-stroke outboard, and trailer (donated by Boston Whaler, Mercury Marine, and Nauset Marine), and a 2006 Nissan Titan XE pickup (donated by the Clay Family Dealerships). Again, the boat package will be awarded to the Grand Prize-winning angler from the Shore Division, and the truck will go to the Grand Prize winner from the Boat Division.

In 2006, we are pleased to announce a Special Prize Event which is sure to add excitement and fun. On each of the first 4 Saturdays during the Derby, a "derby within the Derby" will take place. Each Special Prize Event Saturday will feature a particular fish, the heaviest of which will earn a $500 prize. Prizes will be awarded in both Boat and Shore Divisions. To be eligible for the Special Prize Event, one must sign up at the time of regular Derby registration. An additional $10 fee will be required, and it allows for participation in all 4 Special Prize Event Saturdays. Only fish weighed in on those Saturdays will be eligible for the special prizes. The schedule for the Special Prize Event Saturdays is: September 16 - Bluefish, September 23 - False Albacore, September 30 - Striped Bass, October 7 - Bonito. Please note that you may NOT compete in the Special Prize Event Saturdays unless you have signed up - and you may only do so when you register for the Derby.

Best wishes for an enjoyable summer. We look forward to seeing you in September at Derby Headquarters.
