While the Awards Ceremony is weeks away, already four anglers have won significant prizes for their catches. The Saturday Special Prize Events (featuring a different species on each of the first 4 Saturdays of the Derby) have welcomed some added competition and suspense to the Derby.
On September 16, Zachary Coutinho (12.95 pounds) and Hayden Boullie (8.09) were the recipients of $500 checks for weighing in the heaviest boat and shore bluefish, respectively, that day.
On September 23, David Kadison (boat, 9.61) and Jim Creedon (shore, 9.63) were the big winners, landing the heaviest false albacore. This Saturday, September 30 it's striped bass.
The bonito have their day on October 7.
If you have not yet registered for the Derby, be sure to enter the Special Prize Events at that time.
Best of luck to all.
Lastly, a reminder to all participants: please ice your fish if you plan on donating it to the fillet program. And do NOT use ice from the MV Arena. Thank you."
