The Derby Committee, reaffirmes it's position that it will not accept any fish that are mutilated to alter the length or weight of the fish.

Because of a conflict with the New Bedford Fast Ferry, Kids Day Has moved to
Sunday, September 19th at 6:00 am, at the Oak Bluffs Steamship Authority Wharf, more than 250 young fishermen and women are expected to be on hand trying to catch the big one. In this contest it's the length that counts and not the weight. Many a strange creature has been caught off this wharf. No telling who or what will win. So, parents get that cup of coffee, wake-up the kids and come on down for a great morning of family fun.
All of us on the Derby Committee are looking forward to seeing the children and giving away lots of prizes and t-shirts to all the children.
The 59th Annual Marthas Vineyard Fishing Derby Officially begins September 12 at 12:01am. Already tackle shops across the island report brisk activity. All of the island's Inns, shops, marinas, and auto repair shops are reporting "non-stop activity. Fisherman are getting ready by purchasing a ton of line, leaders, and bait including both eel and sea clams."
