Important Reminder to All Derby Participants:

The 69th Derby is about to begin and it is important to remind everyone how strongly the Derby Committee is committed to the protection of the Islandís natural resources and the property rights of landowners.

Please remember that all over sand vehicles must remain on designated paths and marked trails to protect our beach dunes and beach access. Dune restoration projects are important to maintain the beauty of our Island beaches as well as to provide safety and protection to low land areas in time of severe weather. Beach nourishment programs are very costly and often plant thousands of dune grass plugs to help rebuilt the dunes. One such project is currently going on between the Right Fork access area to South Beach in Edgartown to the Edgartown Great Pond. The landowners and the Derby Committee want everyone to be well aware of this very important program in our effort to restore this valuable piece of beach protection in this area.

We also want to remind all participants that no damage should occur to gates, fences or shrubbery and no rubbish should be left on any beaches where you are fishing. Please help us protect our Islandís natural resources and the property rights of others. We are all in this together.

Thank you,

Ed Jerome
Derby President
